A Simple Life: Perfecting the peaceful morning

Many of us wake up to an alarm, bleary eyed we stumbled out of our bedroom, feeling as though we could do with another few hours or days of sleep. We hit some caffeine to wake up then proceed to rush around for an hour or so getting everyone including ourselves ready before we rush out of the door feeling exhausted, stressed and angry at the world!

Now there is no magic cure for this standard morning rush however this week I am focusing on giving myself and others a simple life and while I don’t have children at school age, the mornings in our house can be frantic, a smoothie making, breakfast preparing, lunch scrounging, teeth cleaning haze of bodies…

Alas no more!

After much reading and research a horrible truth has been uncovered, a dreadful fact that I regretfully must share. In order for our mornings to be more peaceful, we must wake up earlier! Yikes! However this is the week, the week to do everything possible to simplify and cleanse my life so I will embrace this also!

I already get up anywhere between 5.30am - 6.30am, so I don’t see much room for movement but tomorrow morning I shall follow this routine.

The day before…

4pm

- Write this blog post that I will schedule for a 7am posting

7pm

- Make smoothies and lunches for the following day

- Tidy kitchen and living areas

7.30 - 9pm

- Study, relax and spend time with family

9pm

- Bed (trick to an early morning is an early night right?!) [ed. running 40 minutes behind I make it to be just a little later.]

___________________________________________________________________

5am

- wake up (!)

- drink a lemon water

- meditate for 10 - 15 minutes

- drink water to start the daily detoxification process

- do the Peta Serras stretching DVD

6.30am

- watch the sun rise and let its healing rays energise me

The rest is dependant on when my smiley morning monkey awakes. Once Emerson wakes up, the usual routine will take place (minus the items I prepared the evening before).

I will make breakfast in a serene and calm blissed out manner, eat breakfast as a family and then jump online to post this to Facebook and check emails. Shower and get Em and I ready for our day.

Now in theory this sounds like a perfect morning… I shall trial it and let you know how I go :) Would you care to share your morning routines? I’d love to know how you do it…

So I did wake up without an alarm clock at 4.55am - strange how your body can do that! I lay in bed debating with some pretty good arguments why I should not get up, but I had read warnings about this struggle. I was prepared!

I did eye exercises to wake up my eyes, I stretched and moved, I opened my mouth wide and poked out my tongue… and for what ever reason it worked, before I could cuddle back up to B, I was up and out, padding silently, avoiding the creaky floor boards that are right outside Emerson’s bedroom. I made it to the kitchen and made myself a warm lemon drink, my brain was still trying to convince me to go back to bed so I quickly sat down to meditate before I could cave.

Now I meditate quite regularly but for some reason this morning my mind wouldn’t give up and it was less than enjoyable. Noticing every tweak and muscle pain, feeling like I needed to sneeze, scratch or stretch. I made it to 8 minutes and gave up.

Next for the stretching DVD, waking up to Peta’s smiley face and chirpy voice was actually really nice, I tried to feed off of her energy and get excited about being awake. And it worked, before long I was breathing in and out, deepening stretches and feeling my lungs open and body awaken. When it came to an end I considered doing the session for a second time, but decided to update this blog post with my results instead!

Now the sky is beginning to lighten and the birds are singing beautiful morning songs, I feel invigorated and happy, I really do feel calm and serene, so much so, tomorrow I will do this again! For now I am going to sit in my big east facing lounge room window, turn the lights off and watch Mother Nature do her best work!

GOOD MORNING everyone!!!!!!

Love, J x
